One of the most frequently asked questions I hear when performing is “How did you get into magic Nick?”

The answer is quite simple really, most children at some point in their life will own a set of magic tricks, I was one of those kids and I had so much fun fooling friends and family with them. My grandfather showed me a trick where he pulled his thumb off his hand! I was amazed. Unlike most kids who would then go and turn on the television or play football, I wanted to learn more about Magic, I had been bitten by the magic bug!

By the age of 8 I had performed my own magic show, some times entertaining up to 200 people. I started to read books on the art of magic and deception and soon got interested in the human mind. I guess because we still don’t know everything about it, I was eager to find out. At the age of 18 I worked as resident magician in Harrods and also managed a team of magicians in Hamley’s. It was there I learned that it wasn’t all about the tricks I performed; it was how I performed them.

Being a magician, I have been lucky enough to travel around the world performing for different people from all types of cultures and backgrounds. Many of these people helped me realise that magic is not just about a trick, its much more than that, it’s an experience! I recall one man saying: ‘Wow, that’s incredible! For a second I forgot where I was! How!?!.. I can’t even begin to work out how you did that, all I can do is smile and be happy that I have seen such a wonder!’

That man reminded me of the moment I saw my grandfather take off his thumb, from then on I realised how special magic was.
Over the next few years I spent many days developing a modern style of performance which is ‘down to earth’ but still magical and above all, an experience nobody could ever forget!
